Exhibitions Introduction

Hong Kong’s largest design festival, deTour, returns this year from 27 November to 6 December, bringing a slew of exciting events and exhibitions to PMQ under the theme of “Matter of Life”. deTour 2020’s curatorial team, Trilingua Design, joins force with local and international design talent to present a variety of interactive exhibitions, fun workshops and inspiring talks, together exploring design’s traditional and new purposes and its role in the volatile world. For the first time, deTour is also launching a virtual festival with live streams, alongside its physical events, with the goal of bringing new perspectives in design experiences.

Amongst the program highlights is a multi-disciplinary work created by internationally acclaimed studio Whatever Inc. specifically for the event. The work allows visitors to take to the blue sky via their avatars, celebrates the joy of togetherness and the human unity that transcends the constraints of space and time. Meanwhile, Feature Exhibition includes specially curated shows that answer to the “Matter of Life” theme, with CoLAB’s introspection on our misconceptions towards germs, and Synoptic Office’s new interpretation of news-reading pattern, standing in the spotlight. Selected Entries, on the other hand, consists of 10 showcases that bring into focus the creativity and originality of up-and-coming local design groups.
